My mare Handle With Style is a 2001 grey mare by HH Pure Style out of a Handle Bar Doc mare. She is very much Doc Bar bred. Her daddy's sire was a famous cutting horse named Docs Stylish Oak. Her dam's sire was an AQHA champion cutter as well. I purchased her in 2004 as a 3 yr old and she has been my sweet riding horse ever since. Her career as a cutting horse got "cut" short and we found her for sale on equine.com. I couldn't have asked for a better first horse. She has a wonderful temperament and great conformation. We have had a few problems with her weight as she is an easy keeper, and also with her feet. The feet thing became a big deal the last 10 days of this pregnancy and we were icing her twice a day and keeping her in padded hoof boots. Now that the baby is here both the weight and feet are in much better shape and she seems like a happy mama.
More about the sire:
Banjo Whiz is a 1998 bay AQHA stallion by Topsail Whiz, one of the leading reining sires in the industry. He is out of a King Fritz mare and seemed like he would be a great hybrid cross on my mare, introducing some different blood as she, like many cutters, are heavily Doc Bar bred like I mentioned. Banjo Whiz was the National Reining Horse Association freshman sire of 2008 and is an AQHA junior reserve world champion.
As she failed as a cutting horse (many horses do that...they have a different job and purpose than what they were bred for) and made such a wonderful and trustworthy riding horse, I wanted to breed her to an athletic stallion and hope for an athletic awesome riding horse that I can train using Clinton Anderson's Downunder Horsemanship method. The highlight of my time with my mare was when we attended a Clinton Anderson clinic in 2010. I would love to ride with him gain sometime as I learned so much and had such an awesome time.
So now I have a beautiful filly that we believe will be grey like her mama. Hopefully we will be able to register her with the name choice we pick or I will have to rename the blog - haha!
